Positioned west of How Tallon ridge, on Barningham Moor, County Durham.
Located in a dense cluster of carvings west of the settlement, this stone is referenced 51 in the 1998 publication ‘Prehistoric Rock Art of County Durham, Swaledale and Wensleydale. NADRAP referenced the stone ‘Barningham Moor 123’ and added it to ERA in 2008. In their 2008 publication ‘Prehistoric Rock Art in the Northern Dales’, Paul and Barbara Brown suggest the markings may be connected to later quarrying.
On the model the central depression does have an artificial look about it and the profile isn’t typical of prehistoric cup marks / bowls.
