Carved found south of Osmaril (formerly ‘Osmonds’) Gill on Barningham Moor, County Durham.
This small carved sandstone block can be found towards the southern end of a cairn, mainly constructed from limestone. It sits approx 100m SSE of a stone circle and 540m directly east of the more prominent How Tallon cairn. Referenced 81 in Beckensall & Laurie’s 1998 publication ‘Prehistoric Rock Art of County Durham, Swaledale and Wensleydale’, this carving was added to ERA by NADRAP as ‘Barningham Moor 60’ in 2008. The team describes:
“Eight, deep, well formed cups and at least two grooves”
