BGCP_33 Balquhider graveyard3D Model
Balquhidder Churchyard (Canmore ID 80644), grave slab 7 m ENE of SE corner of Old Kirk (SM5588): site co-ordinates: 48.70/26.40. This is the most southerly of three graves within the iron railing surrounding the Rob Roy family graves, marked:
COLL, DIED 1735. ROBERT, DIED 1754. SONS OF ROB ROY.
The slab is 1.72 m long (W–E), and up to 0.56 m wide. It has a slightly angled head (NNW-SSE), with break at NW corner, and notch on S side; it has slightly convex sides, narrowing towards the E. There are parallel hairline splits along the length of the slab.
It bears the crude image of a claymore, 0.91 m long, carved in raised relief. It has slightly downward sloping quillons with a total width of 0.33 m. The blade is 0.60 m long, and narrows from 0.13 m wide, suggesting it is sheathed, to a point at the E. The handle is in the form of a cross, 0.19 m long and 0.14 m wide.
