Yet another “Ecological Engineer”?: The Pacific Oyster – transforming the roughness of the Wadden Sea by an invasive species
We are four early career ocean professionals working together in the BIVA-WATT project. We are investigating effects of the invasive Pacific oyster in the German Wadden Sea. The Pacific oyster is an ecosystem engineer that build reef structures and has a strong influence its their surroundings. Our aim is to understand the impacts of this new, extremely rough surface for the Wadden Sea. We build a website on which you can explore an oyster reef for yourself.
With this interactive website, we want to share our knowledge and insights into a little known, yet impactful, process happening right in front of our eyes. And also, we want to show you the diverse tasks of marine research.
