This carved boulder is set within private near Cottingley in Bradford and measures around 1.5m x 0.6m.
Found within a few metres NE of the largest stone in this cluster of carvings, it has a large broad cup surrounded by 2 irregular rings towards the peak of the stone. A further cup in an irregular ring and a cup in a large natural depression may also be present. First recorded in 1976 it was one of five carvings mentioned in Historic England scheduling (only 4 may exist): https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1018817
The carving wasn’t referenced in Boughey & Vickerman’s 2003 publication ‘Prehistoric Rock Art of the West Riding’, but was later added as ref IAG4b.
The carving was significantly outside the area covered by CSI: Rombalds Moor Project and therefore hasn’t an ERA record.
Model created from 9 photos captured during research for an English Heritage publication on SfM technologies in April 2009.
