Black Thursday: William Strutt (1835-1915): SLV3D Model
Many of my tests explore the bottom end of the quality scale for 2 reasons.
1. You can learn more when things go really wrong which can improve your processes when you’re doing things properly.
2. University researchers often look to the “cheap” end of the scale when it comes to equipment and software.
This test looks at “scanning” a large painting onsite using an iPhone. A useful technique if time/access/equipment is not available, but not one I’d recommend.
The original painting is hanging in a public gallery at the State Library of Victoria and is available for download for comparison.
Apart from some focus issues, you can see lighter, bluish patches in the sky caused by reflections from the lights above.
Technical details: iPhone 6, 144 images. Agisoft Photoscan, Instant Meshes and post processing of textures in Photoshop.
