Stacey Otake from Los Angeles, USA, trained intensely for two weeks at the Kusanokashiragama kiln under Sokei Aoyama and Kensuke Aoyama. Master Aoyama is renowned for his experimental archaeology in the field.

She made two types of traditional Minoware tea bowls. The yellow kizeto (captured in 3D) and hikidashiguro, a deep black glaze achieved by pulling out (hikidasu) the piece while the kiln is firing at high temperature and then cooling it rapidly (sometimes in water, for show mainly, as it makes a howling sound when it goes into the water).
