These three copper-alloy weights were exposed as you see them here at the site of the Schiedam, wrecked n 1684 off Gunwalloe in Cornwall, UK, while on her way back to England from the colony of Tangier after the English had abandoned it that year. The cargo of equipment laden at Tangier and still surviving on the wreck site includes cannon, tools, muskets and ammunition, grenades and marble blocks. The three weights - of Portuguese origin and made in the early 16th century - were embedded in concretion caused by the decay of iron tools and other items surrounding them. The height of the weights is 33 cm from the base to the top of the handle. I recovered the weights in 2020 and published them here: http://davidgibbins.com/journal/2020/11/5/three-portuguese-merchants-weights-of-probable-16th-century-date-from-the-wreck-of-the-schiedam-1684-gunwalloe-cornwall-uk-1
