More model informationBritish Splendour was a tanker built in 1931 by Palmer’s Shipbuilding & Iron Co., in Newcastle, England. It was 441 feet long and had a gross tonnage of 7,138. On 7 April 1942, British Splendour was carrying a cargo of 10,000 tons of benzene when a torpedo from the German U-boat U-552 slammed into its side setting the ship ablaze and killing 12 of its 41 person crew.
