Lost township, rediscovered on the southeast shore of Loch Eynort in the southern part of the Glen Brittle Forest below the open mountainsides of Cnoc an Teine and An Cruachan.
Excerpts from: Bracadale, County of Inverness, NSA, Vol. 14, 1840: ” At the time of the last Statistical Account, the population was 2250 souls. By the last census it was 1769, and since that period there has been a farther decrease. This decrease is solely to be ascribed to the system of farming which has for some time been adopted, viz. throwing a number of farms into one large tack for sheep-grazing, and dispossessing and setting adrift the small tenants” (Glass 1840, 296)
This is a moment in time when the way of life was ending - a single shepherd now inhabitated a once thriving community. And soon, even they were gone.
