Cardinal's Cross3D Model
The cardinal’s cross most likely belonged to the provost from Miechów, Andrzej Batory, who held this dignity in the years 1583–1599. The double-arm cross is mainly made of silver and is partially gilded. The upper part of its shaft was replaced at the end of the 19th century. King Stefan Batory’s nephew, Andrzej, in September 1583, in the retinue of the envoys, went to Rome, where he was to receive the dignity of a cardinal. Young Batory traveled through Milan, where he met an outstanding clergyman of the time, Charles Borromeo. The royal nephew’s solemn entry into Rome took place on November 30, 1583, on the day dedicated to St. Andrzej.
