Castletown Arra Chest Tomb (TN019-002003-)3D Model
Stone lid of a 17th century chest tomb belonging to Terence (Turlogh) O’Brien (1508-1601-) of Castletown Arra and his wife Marie Mor O’Brien (nee O’Carroll) standing up against the external face of the northern wall of Castletown Arra church ruins (TN019-002001-) in County Tipperary. Around the edge of the lid runs a poorly preserved Latin inscription, the lower section of which has been broken off. This family who ruled over the Gaelic territory of Arra lived in the Castle located across the road from the medieval church and graveyard. Terence (Turlogh) O’Brien died February 1601 aged 73 years old. Marie Mor O’Brien (1552-1638) Their son was Murchadh (Murrough, Maurice) O’Brien Aradh, bishop of Killaloe between 1576–1613.
