This is a fixed human heart that was donated for research. The donor was a 90+ year old male with a history of arteriosclerosis, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and heart failure. They had kidney disease, heart valve disease and suffered a stroke. They also had a patent foramen ovale: a hole in between the upper chambers of the heart.
