The church of the Madonna della Neve is located in Cocconato, between the Versa and the Marcellina valley. The historical importance of the site was reiterated, in medieval times, by the passage of a road which partly retraced the route of the Roman road between Hasta Pompeia (Asti) and Industria (Monteu). The first documentary evidence of the ancient church is of 1250 in a letter from Pope Innocent IV to the parish priest of Cocconato and testifies to the formation of the parish church of Cocconato (Plebs Cochonati) belonging to the diocese of Vercelli. Starting from the end of the sixteenth century, following a fate common to other parish churches, the church underwent a long decline, leaving room for the parish church located at the top of the town, near the castle. At the end of the seventeenth century the church was rebuilt, although the site had been stripped to reuse the materials in the construction of the parish church. The characteristics of the new building can be seen from a drawing of 1790.
