This lamp comes from the Classical period. It was found inside the tombs of the West Cemetery during 1968 excavations. The lamp is Corinthian and was dated to the late 4th into early 3rd century BC. It features a groove in the transition from wall to base, which dates this piece anywhere from the last half of the 5th century to as late as 300 B.C. The horizontal handle band is a recognizable feature of classical period lamps from Corinth, often with sloppily applied handles as is the case with this example. It has been suggested that crude lamps of this type were inferior to those intended for everyday use, and the proportion of this type of lamp found in the cemetery as opposed to the Agora in Athens has led some to believe this style had a specific funerary purpose (Wohl 2017, 3).
