Among the accessories of the Jomon period, bracelets were mainly made of shellfish. But bracelets made of shellfish were difficult to obtain for people living in areas far from the sea. Therefore, they made bracelets out of clay and colored them white to resemble the color of shells. The artifact introduced here shows a stack of shell bracelets. It must have been white at the time, as traces of white pigment are also visible. However, there was one problem with this bracelet. It’s the weight. Unlike shell, clay bracelets are very heavy. Those who wore this must have been able to improve their arm strength.
