More model informationClay Female Figurine Bird Head 1750 -1650 BC.
Description
This freestanding female figurine is made in buff clay with a flattened back and a deep vertical groove delineating legs. A short neck separates the triangular head from the body. It has relatively broad shoulders, pointed breasts, bent arms indicated by shallow incisions crossing below the chest, ears with double perforations, a pinched nose, and a bird-like head. This rare figurine is usually found in tombs. Towards the Late Cypriot period, new types of these female representations such as ‘bird-headed’ and ‘flat-headed’ types became popular, many of them linked to the Levantine goddess Ishtar/Astarte.
