More model informationClay tobacco pipes of this shape typically date from the late 18th century.
This example was found along with 670 pipe fragments during archaeological excavations at Edinburgh Castle between 1989 and 1991.
It was probably locally made by an Edinburgh clay pipe maker.
One of the 18th century pipes found in the same excavation bears the Hanovarian arms and may provide direct evidence of the English garrison that occupied Edinburgh Castle at the time.
