(PT) As bolachas do mar (parentes dos ouriços do mar) são equinodermes pertencentes ao género Clypeaster. Surgiram no Eocénico (56 a 34 M.a.) e ainda perduram na atualidade. Habitam tipicamente ambientes marinhos, em águas quentes (subtropicais a tropicais) e em pouca profundidade, semienterrados no substrato arenoso, alimentando-se de detritos orgânicos presentes no sedimento (detritívoros). Em Portugal, é comum encontrar fósseis destes na região de Lisboa, da Península de Setúbal e do Algarve.

They typically inhabit marine environments, in warm waters (subtropical to tropical) and at shallow depths, semi-buried in the sandy substrate, feeding on organic detritus present in the sediment (detritivores).
