More model informationThis portion of the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal is located near Knoxville, MD, across the Potomac River from Harpers Ferry, WV, at approximately mile marker 61 near Lock #34. The dry-laid stone wall retains a portion of Harpers Ferry Road as it runs adjacent to the canal path. Of note is a small segment of the wall where a railroad tie has been used to support a small segment of wall in the natural bedrock.
Heritage Documentation Programs undertook this documentation of the Level 33 road wall segment for the Chesapeake & Ohio National Historical Park in 2020. The field team included architects Ryan Pierce and Paul Davidson, and photographer Jarob Ortiz.
