Coal cart (NHMW-AFW-DING-0054)3D Model
3D scan of a coal cart. The heavy cart was in use at the museum until the late 1960’s, when the museum switched to district heating.
Heating a building like the Natural History Museum Vienna required large amount of coal. The heating was very labour intensive, not only had the coal to be transported, but it also had to be shoveled into the boiler – work that put a lot of strain on the back of the worker.
The cart is not on display and can be viewed by appointment.
