Connection Rod - Generative & Topological Design

Generative Design and Topological Optimization combined generated and interesting shape for this connection rod. Goals for the design were to reduce weight, maximise stiffness, defined within a certain space, while maintaining its safety factor. Not only does the result look very organic and alien, but it’s quite aesthetically pleasing aswell.

The lower weight from the connection rod reduces the reciprocating and rotating mass in the engine which increases throttle response and performance. material used for the calculation: 17-4PH Stainless Steel (600 MPa yield strength) Weight: 25 gram
