Crucifixion, c.11803D Model
Limestone Crucifixion, c.1180, in the collection of the Minneapolis Institute of Art.
From the gallery label: “This large-scale work embodies the characteristics of Romanesque sculpture in the Medieval period, with its massive and heavy stylized bodies, calligraphic depiction of hair, and linear, energetic approach to rendering the folds of the fabric.
”…It is not known where (this) relief comes from, but it resembles the sculpture of Northern Spain, particularly works in churches on the still-active pilgrimage route leading to Santiago de Compostela.”
