More model information**Fine maroon wool skirt, part of 2 piece dress or costume **
c.1860
Fine maroon wool skirt, faded to brown, fastening at the waist and with an small cotton pocket. The skirt is full, broadening out towards and the hem and having a slight train at the rear. It is largely plain but decoration has been added at the hem line using two parallel horizontal bands of purple silk chenille edged with couched spirals of purple cord. It is not lined but a band of woollen braid has been added at the hem to act as a ‘dust catcher’. Two large tears are present in the skirt and sections of fabric from the wide, hand finished hem, have been used to effect basic repairs.
