Description: Vivianite is a well-known phosphate mineral, forming in highly aesthetic sharply colored crystals. Vivianite is notorious for darkening upon exposure to light (oxidation occur, Fe(II) converting to Fe(III). Exposure to light will ultimately allow this darkening to continue until the specimen is almost black and opaque. The sample has a deep bluish tint on the fresh surface.
