One of the companion characters for the casual game Junk-o-Tron. All of the robot characters were supposed to seem repurposed or “recycled” into their positions in waste disposal, so I tried to make Dave look like he had worked construction. In terms of visual inspiration, I thought of the Binomes from ReBoot (a 90s CGI show) and P-Body from Portal 2 multiplayer.

This was the final character I worked on for the game. His personality was also fun to try and reflect in the poses. Some of the other characters were very emotional but his jaded, detached attitude was a little more subtle. That coupled with his long limbs made it a little hard to keep him instantly readable and a little restrained, but I think he ended up being expressive enough to see even when the game gets a little hectic.

All of the art that appears in the final game was prerendered, so I didn’t have many strict requirements compared to an average game character. This was another character where I used procedural textures.
