More model informationThis model of the diopside structure shows the single chains of linked silicate tetrahedra parallel to the Z-crystallographic axis. They are cross linked by octahedral cations (Mg in this case) in the smaller M1 site (orange) together with the larger (cyan) M2 octahedral site (occupied by calcium in this case). Note that the structure is monoclinic with the tilted x-axis projected toward the viewer in the initial view.
This model was uploaded via a vrml export from the freeware Vesta. Data for albite were downloaded from the American Mineralogist Crystal Structure Database.
