Orod II was enthroned by the hereditary commander of the Parthian army Surena Mihran, who overthrew King Mithridates III, who had taken refuge in the Roman dominions. Suren took Seleucia by storm and forced Babylon to surrender by starvation, after which Mithridates III was executed by the verdict of Orodes. During his reign, an era of open confrontation between Parthia and Rome began, provoked by the invasion of Crassus. Crassus was defeated at the Battle of Karr by the commander Surena Mihran in 53 BC. Orod II was deposed and killed by the order of his son Phraates, the future king Phraates IV.
