Inspired by Stranger Things, this prop is a perfect tribute to the first episode of season two and a perfect fit in my ongoing arcade project. This prop was modeled in Maya where the base structure from my first game cabinet, granted there was a lot of deconstructing as this is a very different shape. In a way, it was like modeling from scratch.
The art for this prop was found on Google and was created by the orignial Dragon’s Lair artists and talented fans. I myself spent a lot of time in Photoshop carefully restoring these images and modifying some of these images to fit my prop.
Once the tedious process in Photoshop was complete, the texturing process within Substance Painter began. This was fun to do. This piece by far is my favorite and I would even dare to say it’s one I’ve had the most fun with in my modeling career thus far. Emissive lights were added to the score board, the screen for a bit of ominous curiosity, and the light strips on the side panels of the cabinet for a dash of creativity.
