Dropout Bear

I always wanted to learn about creating toon shader like some of the top artists I follow here on Sketchfab and Twitter :D

So I used the Dropbout Bear from the Kanye West’s Graduation album as a reference for my experimentation.

It’s a combination of multiple techniques :

• Inverted hull for the main black outlines
• Black lines directly integrated on the topology for details
• Grease pencil on the shoes (that I converted into mesh so it can be deformed by the rig)

It was also an opportunity for me to pratice more on my rigging and texturing skills, especially the workflow with Substance Painter. I used a seamless pattern for the jacket (also on the logo).

There’s no animation yet for this model but I’m planning to take 3D anim course to level up on this section 🦾
