This island site has had a chequered history. It began (we think) as an Iron Age broch, ‘Dun an Sticir’ (fort of the skulker) but after a period of abandonment, much of the masonry was recycled to form a 16th Century hall, built within the broch remains.
To the east of the original structure there are still the foundations of further structures, now no more than foundation traces of outbuildings of some kind.
The inter-mural structure of the broch can be seen along a section of the southern wall where there has been csome collapse, although other sections have become infilled by fallen stonework at some time in the ruin’s history.
The site is easily reached by a seies of stone causeways which link the 3 islets on the shallow tidal loch. At high Spring tides, access can by less easy as some of the stones will be water-covered and may be slippery!
Full details of the site can be found on the HES website at https://canmore.org.uk/site/10294 together with photographs and scale drawings
