More model informationA sandstone block with crudely incised decoration. The decoration includes the head of a man, a lion, and other unidentified markings. The adjoining fragment is now in the Petrie Museum (UC44568). When combined, the block contains four horizontal lines of a Meroitic inscription. It was found at Meroe in 1910 by the Liverpool Institute of Archaeology, directed by John Garstang. According to the excavation report, the block was discovered in the steps leading to the Amun Temple (spot 275). Presented to the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum in 1910. On long-term loan to the Egypt Centre since 1971 following the dispersal of the Wellcome collection.
