EduF655 Shark Tooth (Megalodon)3D Model
Shark Tooth (Megalodon, Otodus megalodon)
97x65x24mm
Neogene (Miocene, 23-5Ma)
Florida, United States
This tooth, belongs to an extinct species of the giant shark megalodon, possessing the largest teeth of any shark that has ever lived. Scientists estimate the shark could grow to between 14 and 24m, longer than a city bus! The pointed tooth has serrated edges (although worn down in this fossil) used to cut prey like whales, seals and sea turtles the megalodon likely fed on, into smaller pieces. Unlike humans, sharks continuously shed their teeth, going through thousands in their lifetime, making teeth a much more common fossil than any other part of the shark.
