More model informationThe 73 ft steambarge E.J. LaWay was built in 1914 and was part of a family run business. The LaWay carried general cargo to all areas of the upper Great Lakes. On its final voyage it was carrying coal to the fishing camp on Burnt Island when the hull was cut by ice and started taking on water. Their attempt to reach a place to beach the vessel failed and the LaWay sank in shallow water while the crew managed to abandon the sinking boat. Today the E. J. LaWay Jr. is the most intact shipwreck in the St. Mary’s River and a popular dive site. The model was created from 1,666 30-megapixel images shot on one DPV dive by Ken Merryman in the 2023 season.
