More model informationThis sculpture made from sandstone is from southwest India. According to the label:
This elephant comes from the forecourt of a Hindu or Jain temple. It was originally surmounted by a lion, whose paws are still visible on its back. The lion probably symbolised royal power and mastery, and the elephant the earth. Large, freestanding elephants are seen at the Kailasha temple at Ellora and elsewhere.
This sculpture was 3D scanned at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, England, with a Structure Scanner attached to an iPad Mini 4.
