Photogrammétrie d’un modelé d’érosion différentielle observée dans le cratère du Puy de la vache au sein du massif central.

On observe une bombe volcanique basaltique sur le chapeau sommital de cette “mini cheminée de fée” qui surplombe un ensemble de lapillis. La différence de resistance entre ces deux matériaux explique ce modelé d’érosion différentielle.

Tandis que l’érosion met à nu un de cette bombe basaltique, roche dure et cohérente, les eaux de ruissellement la contournent, et érodent les éléments plus fins situés autour. Le bloc finit par se retrouver perché sur une sorte de piédestal, surplombant les lapilis, friables, en périphérie.
