One of the large 220mm diameter (c.16kg) stone shot recovered from the Esmeralda Shipwreck lost of the coast of Al Hallayinyah, Oman

The VS is thought to be the initials of the captain Vincente Sodre, however no contemporary stone shot with carved markings has been seen on other sites.

No guns matching this calibre were found on the site as it was salvaged soon after wrecking, however on other Portuguese East Indiamen a large bronze gun known as a Camel bearing the armillary sphere and coat of arms of King Manuel I s these shot
