GAJETA FALKUŠA – THE ARCHETYPAL BOAT
Thanks to the fishermen from Komiza and the shipbuilders from Korcula, who adjusted it to the fishing and navigational conditions of the Adriatic open sea islands, “gajeta falkuša” was kept alive all throughout the past millenium, till the beginning of the 20th century.
This 8-9 and a half meter long boat is small enough to show its archetypal elemental quality -made up of a hull, harmoniously shaped shell which puts up least amount of resistance when in contact with water.
The balance of mutually contradictory demands, the harmony of contradictions, simplicity in complexity, complexity in simplicity, the small in the large, one in many, many in one-this is the principle of the universe, and this boat embodies this principle with the harmony of its contradictions. The embodiment of this principle is the essence of its beauty, and its beauty is the reason of the promotion of “gajeta falkuša” as the universal boat.
