The lions of Fu or guardian lions have stood in front of official buildings, temples and wealthy homes since the Han dynasty, which began in 206 BC. These lions appear in pairs, one being the male who generally rests his paw on a ball and the other the female, who is accompanied by a cub.
The model in question represents the female lion of the Xiang Lin Si Buddhist temple located in Malacca and built in the style of Chinese architecture. This temple stands out for its ground floor containing 18 sculptures of Buddha’s disciples represented according to Chinese tradition. This model was photographed by Armonite during a visit to Malaysia in 2022.
