Fibropapillomatosis in Green Turtle3D ModelNoAI
Fibropapillomatosis (FP) is a neoplastic (i.e. tumor) disease that mostly affects green turtles and is rarely described in other sea turtle species. Turtles severely affected by FP are not able to swim and forage which can result in starvation and death. Although FP is described worldwide, it has only recently been confirmed to be in Grenada and likely represents an emerging disease around the island. Research is underway to identify the cause of the disease as tumor development is thought to be associated with multiple factors such as viral infection and environmental conditions.
Specimen found and collected in Grenada, West Indies and rregistered with the goverment for nencrospy at St. George’s University.
