Fisher Coat-of-Arms - St David's Church, Naas3D ModelNoAI
National Monument (KD019-030032-)
This beautifully executed coat-of-arms is part of a monument commemorating an Edward Fisher who died in 1659. The stone is now embedded in the south external wall of St David’s Church, Naas, Co. Kildare. Another broken section of the same memorial (originally designed to be set beneath the crest but now embedded in the wall over a meter away) carries the following inscription:
“THE:BURIALL:PLACE……EATE:OF:CAPTn/.EDWARD:FISHER:ESQr:WHO DIED:THE.9th:DAY/OF:DESEMBr:1659:HE:WAS:MARRIED:TO:MAWDLE/N:MERCER:BY:WHOME:HE HAD 2:DAUGHTERS:KA/THARINE:AND:ELIZABETH:WHOS:HEERE:INTERR/ED:HE:GAVE:AN:100L: OR.ELS:10L: Pr ANUM:FOR .THE/REPAIRING:OF:THIS:CHURCH &”
As is evident in the model, the upper lions have been defaced in recent years. This is an increasing problem with stone monuments left in the open and speaks to a lack of general appreciation for our built heritage and very weak enforcement of their protection.
