Floater crystal of Hornblende3D ModelNoAI
Locality: Czech Republic
No.: 3988
Size: 3.3 x 2.5 x 2 cm
Formula: Magnesio-hornblende to Ferro-hornblende - ◻Ca2(Mg,Fe2+)4Al(Si7AlO22)(OH)2
Description: This is a well-formed, doubly-terminated black Hornblende crystal 33 mm long. For classification purposes (Leake et al., 1997) the term Hornblende is used only within the names Magnesio-hornblende and Ferro-hornblende for the end members Ca2Mg4Al(Si7AlO22)(OH)2 and Ca2Fe(II)4Al(Si7AlO22)(OH)2, respectively and not as a mineral name itself.
The extremely wide range of chemical substitutions possible in Hornblende leads to their existence in a wide variety of igneous and metamorphic petrogenetic conditions.
