The Fontana dei Monti is composed of an allegorical whole that is inspired by the coat of arms of the Monti district: three superimposed starred mountains (in reference to Esquilino, Viminale and Celio, once all included in the Monti district), from which the water flows and falls into as many suspended basins and slightly molded. The fountain was built in 1927 based on a project by the architect Pietro Lombardi, to whom the Municipality of Rome commissioned other small fountains, all allusive, in the decorations, to the coats of arms of the districts or to the activities of the places: the Fontana delle Anfore, the Fontana delle Arti, the Fontana delle Tiare, the Fontana dei Libri, the Fontana delle Palle di Cannone, the Fontana della Pigna, the Fontana della Botte and the Fontana del Timone. You can see 3D models of some of these fountains in this collection
