The construction of the fortress near the village of Mezek dates back to the late 11th and early 12th centuries, probably during the reign of Byzantine Emperor Alexios I Komnenos (1081-1118). It was very well preserved until the beginning of the 20th century, when stones from the fortress were used for the construction works. It is located in southeastern Bulgaria, 12 km west of Svilengrad, south of the village of Mezek.
La construcción de la fortaleza cerca del pueblo de Mezek se remonta a finales del siglo XI y principios del XII, probablemente durante el reinado del emperador bizantino Alejo I Comneno (1081-1118). Estuvo muy bien conservado hasta principios del siglo XX, cuando se utilizaron piedras de la fortaleza para las obras de construcción.
