HADRIANOPOLIS: The ancient city ‘Paphlagonia Hadrianopolis’ is now in Turkey’s Karabük province, 3 km west of Eskipazar in ‘Viranşehir.’ It encompasses Budaklar, Büyükyaylalar, Çaylı, and Beytarla villages, at the crossroads of Paphlagonia, Bithynia, and Galatia.
Ongoing surveys and excavations from 2003 confirm Hadrianopolis as a prominent Roman settlement. Recent discoveries, including ground-penetrating radar, reveal continuous habitation spanning 5500 years, from the Late Chalcolithic Period.
FOUR RIVERS CHURCH: This church features figures with cornucopia, symbolizing Geon, Phison, Tigris, and Euphrates, thought to be rivers of paradise in Torah and the Bible, dating back to the 5th-6th century CE.
Led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ersin ÇELİKBAŞ, 2022’s restoration and conservation efforts focused on the Square-Planned Building and nearby fortifications. Sampling and lab work were supported by experts from Kastamonu University and Ankara University E-mail: hadrianoupoliskazisi@gmail.com
