This is a remote site in the Red Rock District of the Coconino Forest near Sedona, Arizona.
These are Sinagua petroglyphs pecked into local basalt volcanic rock. The copules shown on this boulder have been highly weathered by over 800 years of direct exposure to the weather. In this example, someone has attempted to create a plaster cast leaving a residue and wearing down the surface of the original cupule
