This is a copy of a museum specimen from St. Louis, Missouri. Cahokia culture started developing in the 10th century, and it became the most important settlement to the Mississippian culture from around the year 1050. After several centuries, Cahokia’s population would grow to as large as 40,000 people. The primary city settlement filled about 6 sq miles, within which they bult hundreds of mounds.
Although their population and viilages were far larger than those found in the Verde Valley of Central Ariz. they also abandonned their settlement around 1400AD. They left evidence of an advanced knowledge of astronomy and geometry.
