More model informationThis Katsina is most likely from Zuni or Hopi Pueblo area. Best guess made after 1880 and before 1920. Traditionally katsina dolls are used as teaching tools.
This example is approximately 22 centimeters high.It is made from a very light fine grained wood. The remaining feathers are original. One ear, the nose and portions of the torso are broken off or very worn. The paint is severely faded with some areas chipped or sloughed off. This example had been stored in a reasonably protected environment since at least the 1950s
The katsina was acquired by Elsie Rosine Viault Steedman between 1918 and 1920. She later became a student of Franz Boas.
