More model informationEarly Christian monastery (OF014-029----) founded at Gallen, Co. Offaly by St. Canoc in 492 AD. This monastic site was excavated in 1934-5 by T. D. Kendrick. About 200 fragments of cross-slabs dating from the 8th/11th-centuries were uncovered by this excavation. Sandstone cross slab. Cross slab. Irregular in outline, roughly rounded. It bears an incised design consisting of a linear cross with a round hollow in the centre contained in a circumference circle. Each quadrant contains a crosslet in a circumference circle.
