Remains of a motte and bailey castle probably constructed towards the end of the 12th Century during the Anglo-Norman invasion (SMR WX017-008—). The site may have contained a wooden structure on the summit of the motte and the lower bailey structure could have contained supporting buildings. The site was still in use until 1311 when it was destroyed. The site is located on a slight promontory on the eastern coast of County Wexford, Ireland and is actively eroding into the Irish Sea.
The site was recorded using UAV sfm photogrammetry as part of the CHERISH Project. Successive surveys have identified area of active erosion and accretion on the monument in addition to geophysical surveys which have revealed remains of sub surface structures.
